Abstract

Natural language is humans' essential tool for reasoning and communication; data visualization is a man-made language for people to analyze and communicate insights about abstract data. It is not uncommon to see researchers in these two areas cross paths. In this talk I will review research topics and projects at the intersection of NLP and data visualization, organized in the following themes: (1) comparing and contrasting projects from these two areas that try to address similar tasks or data, (2)  examining the role of natural language and visual language in data analysis and communication, and (3) integrating NLP and InfoVis to solve challenging problems.
